Carols at St James 2018

This years Carol Service with Wardle Anderson Brass Band will take place in church on Sunday 16th December at 6pm. We are all looking forward to welcoming back Wardle Anderson after this summers phenomenal Concert in support of our War Memorial Restoration Project.

We are pleased to announce that this years event has been kindly sponsored by Fountains Features. Unit 3, The Meridian Centre, King Street Oldham. Thank you for your generous support.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

The Fallen of Milnrow

Thanks you for your support so far with this imitative. To date you have helped raise £1,030.

As part of our War Memorial Restoration Appeal we are inviting everyone to support the re-lettering of the names of the local lads who gave their lives in the Great War.

Your £10 donation will go a long way to have the names re-instated so that we never forget the ultimate sacrifice for King, country, family and friends. Your name will be entered in a scroll that will be displayed in church to recognise your support.

There are still 23 names to support so please spread the word.  We’d be delighted to receive support from local business.  Just drop us a line on  st.jamesmilnrow@outlook.com

Anne receives Top Scouting Award

On Sunday 29th April we were joined by Stephen Allen, ex-District Commissioner for Rochdale District Scouts.

The reason for Stephen’s visit was to present one of the most prestigious awards in  Scouting to Anne Winn, lifetime member of St James and currently PCC Secretary.

Anne has been a member of the Scout Association for over 30 years. For over 20 years of this period she was the Cub Scout Leader of 1st Milnrow Scout Group. More recently she is an active Training Advisor and member of the Appointments Committee interviewing prospective new leaders.

Anne’s commitment to the Scout Association has been steadfast throughout this time. We’re sure she would be the first to say she’s been supported throughout this time by her husband Trevor, but nonetheless, this is a fantastic achievement.

The Silver Acorn is one of the highest adult awards made by the Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, in recognition of her service to the Scout Association and for the impact she has made on the lives of so many young people in Milnrow and across the Borough of Rochdale.

From everyone at St James, “congratulations Anne”. A very well deserved award.

St James receives Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

On Sunday 29th April we were joined by representatives of Rochdale Hearbeat who presented us with an AED for use (if needed) in church.

Committee members Pam Wiseman and Sue Ridgard joined Rev Ivan Ruiters and Ian Douglas to present the AED during the mornings service.

5 members of our congregation are members of Rochdale Heartbeat and they have encouraged us to support a number of fundraising events to help place more AED’s in public buildings. One of our bravest fundraisers, Rachel Jay (nee Winn), took part in 2 open water swims raising a mammoth £976.

So thank you to Rochdale Heartbeat for the AED. We hope we don’t have to use it, but if we do, we know we’ll have done everything possible to save a life.

Thanks to Rachel and all of you who supported any of these fundraising events.
