Meeting every 2 weeks on a Saturday 9-12, our team of volunteers have kept the grass in check, the borders tidy and the church and grounds looking in great shape.
If you can spare an hour or two come along. There’s always something to do and we have a kettle that always need boiling. Its also rumoured that all the team are now sporting the best suntans they’ve every had. Sunscreen always on hand!

Thanks to your support our War Memorial Appeal has got off to a great start. Thanks to our Smartie Tube appeal, people from all over are filling tubes of Smarties with 20p pieces. So far we’ve raised £430.
Thank you everyone. If you’d like a tube of Smarties just let know or call in church any Sunday morning 9-11 am.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our War Memorial Refurbishment Appeal.
2018 is the Centenary Year of World Ward I so we are attempting to refurbish the Ward Memorial to its former glory. We are hoping to attract grant funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund and the local authority, but we need your help.
To get or fundraising started we’re offering you a tube of Smarties to enjoy …. but there’s a catch! We would like you to return the tube filled with 20p pieces. Each tube filled to the top will hold £13. If we could get 100 tubes returned that would be a fantastic start to our fundraising. Smarties are available at the back of church each Sunday. Please see Linda Adshead for more information.
We will publicise anyone who returns a tube on our Facebook, Twitter and website. So if you’d like to take a tube to work and ask your colleagues for some help we’ll happily give your team, business, office some publicity.

On Sunday 17th December we held our annual Carol Service with Wardle Anderson Brass Band.
We have a fabulous evening of carols, readings, and music. Wardle Anderson Brass band just get better and better.
Wardle Anderson have played at St James at this event for the past 10 years now and our Carol Service has become established as and annual fixture in their schedule. So much so they now use this opportunity to present their annual awards to band members which is a honour to be part of. Congratulations to everyone associated with the band, your enthusiasm and dedication knows no bounds.
This years service was kindly sponsored by Shaw Mitchell Accountants of Dale St, Milnrow. We would like to thank Barry and Paula for their support. As per their wishes we shared our retiring collection with The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and donated £165.
Thank you for everyone’s support and to the small army of volunteers who pulled together the post service refreshments.
Merry Christmas everyone.
A huge thank you to all our young people from Sunday School and TCCOP who held their Christmas Nativity last Sunday, 17th Dec. Their readings and prayers where fabulous.
On behalf of everyone at St James we would like to thank all our young people for all that they do and bring to our church life. We also say a huge thank you Andrea and Angela who have helped lead our Sunday School over the past 18 months or so. Enjoy the rest, but thank you for all your hard work, it has been very much appreciated.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Thank you all for your responses so far to this years Stewardship Campaign.
Stewardship is all about how we take care of our church and the things we do as a church. We hope you’ve had time to reflect on this, including the importance of all the things we do (or don’t do) and the part we play in those things as well as the upkeep of the church.
If we are to be as successful as we can be we all need to reflect on our commitment and return our forms. The deadline for returns is Sunday 19th November so if you haven’t done so, now is the time to give it some thought.
Together we can achieve great things.

Next Sunday 12th November we will be holding a joint Remembrance Sunday Eucharist at St Thomas, Newhey starting at 9am. This will allow both churches in the benefice to celebrate Remembrance Sunday before moving on to Milnrow Memorial Park to take part in our civic act of remembrance.
There will be no services at St James on 12th November.
